What a day.
I woke up earlier than I had planned, and enjoyed a leisurely coffee and brunch in front of the HD TV in the lounge, watching the Jays highlights on TSN. Then, I headed off to the Citadel. I wasn't sure I wanted to spend twelve bucks just to get in and walk around, but I got more than my money's worth in the form of Bonus Bagpipes. I didn't know that the 78th Highlanders are affiliated with the Citadel and therefore part of what goes on there. Music can add character anywhere, and this was no exception. I think I was there for a good two hours. Of course, I watched them fire the gun at noon.
After that, I strolled down Barrington Street to the Granite St. Brewpub for a liquid lunch. I sampled their IPA and Ringwood. The IPA was great, and I liked Ringwood even better. I'd buy it if I could get it back home. I enjoyed sipping my suds in the open window while people-watching.
After a stroll along the waterfront boardwalk, I took the tour of the Alexander Keiths brewery. Yes, Keiths is megaswill, but I like brewery tours. From the 'bizarre coincidence' file: there were only three other people on the tour, and one of them was from my town, living literally walking distance from me!
I decided to try my luck at the casino after that. I'm a sucker for the slots. No luck for me this time.
I was going to go back to my room for dinner, but couldn't resist stopping in at The Lower Deck. I heard a singer/guitar player from outside and he sounded good. Just a quick beer or two, I told myself. Famous last words. As I was finishing my beer, the place really started filling up and a couple joined me at my table since there were no other seats. We started chatting - they were from Vermont and on their honeymoon. Uh-oh, he refills my beer from his pitcher. Darn! Then, he resisted my attempt to pay for the next pitcher. Double-darn!
Long story short, three pitchers later, they departed to get some food and I went to the bar to watch Doc Halladay and the Jays finish off the Yankees, occasionally turning my attention to the band on the stage behind me, McGinty. A cute guy who's obviously also baseball fan bought me a beer, for being a Jays fan. I forget your name, whoever-you-are, but yes, you're cute and thanks for the beer!
