I don't know how it worked out, really, but somehow, a while back, with no ride to Jasper and a train to catch from there, I convinced a bunch of my friends that it would be a good idea to spend a couple days in Jasper after the exam, on a crapshoot that it would grant me a ride there. I'm not saying I was entirely using them for the ride - it would also be awesome to hang out with them there for a few days - and luckily they thought so too, so after the exam I was packed into the backseat of a tiny Volkswagen rabbit like that annoying tetris piece that never fits where you want it to. And just to make things weird, I had an actual rabbit on my lap for half the time. I won't explain why, because that would just make things mundane.
A car with two moons shining out the window passed by, and that was the other half of our little group- although I barely saw them the whole rest of the time in Jasper. Mind you I saw a little too much the first time they went by, so I suppose that's fine.
First order of business in Jasper? Find the friend I'd be traveling across the country with. Jen had taken the train from Vancouver and she arrived that morning. When I phoned her to ask where she was, she told me she could see me and was waving. So I wandered around like an idiot for a while looking in all the wrong directions until I finally found her, and the rest of the night faded away into beer.
