Day 3-Jasper

Lights on at exactly 8:00am.  That is what you get at the hostel in Jasper.  Also, lights out at exactly 11:00pm, so you'd better make sure your bed is set up or there will be a lot of clambering into bed posts as you try to get settled.

Activity of the day: hiking.  Only three of us ended up going: me, Jen and Celeste, and the rest went to Marmot basin for skiing. What they missed was a pleasant stroll through the snowy woods to a stunning pyramid lake...which turned into a paranoid and tired shuffle as we discovered fresh bear tracks on our trail.  Every now and then we would get the false hope that the bear left as the tracks would wander off the trail... and then it would be back. We realized later the pamphlets say that when this happens, the best thing to do is get out of the area, but we tracked the damn thing instead.  We never found it, but we said we did, of course.

We returned to the town tired but not entirely defeated, and had a bizarre Chinese food dinner during which the waiter hovered over us, refilling our water after what seemed like every sip.  When it took us a while to decide, he decided we would all have Combo C.  When it came time to pay, he stood and waited at the table.  Why he wanted us out of there so bad, I'm not sure.  Maybe we were in some mob boss's seat and needed to leave before he got there...

After that, it was definitely time for beer. We headed to the brewery and each ordered the sampler.  After 6 beer we were quite sure that we were now connoisseurs.  Being classy as I am, we opened a bottle of champagne later at the hostel... only to have it explode in my face every time I took a sip.  Note to self: Do NOT make a seal over the bottle when drinking from it. 11:00, lights out!
