The Tundra is a Sea of Emerald Green

We have left Winnipeg and are going up to northern Churchill MB. This will be the furthest north anyone in my family has ever been. I met a rail worker on the train named Les. He is a burley man who reminds me of a character from the book "Where the Wild Things Live". He had thick white nails and looks like he could be dangerous, but has a heart of gold. His quote is "The tundra is like a sea of emerald green" The coordinates for Churchill are along 58th parallel. We are a hop skip and jump from the Nunavut Territory. In fact I have already met one gentleman and his son (Jaco and Alexander) who are from Kugluktuk, Nunavut. They were sitting watching the train depart and we got to chatting. They are here in Churchill for Alexander's dentist appointment.

After settling in our hotel, The Polar Inn (literally a 5 minute walk from the train station) we went for a walk to Hudsons Bay!! It was very cold and windy on the bay but we strolled along and were careful to watch out for Polar Bears. If you come here you will find signs all over that warn not to walk on or near the rocks by the Bay because Polar Bears like to hid in them. We walked around the rocks and headed straight for the beach! After getting some shots and filming done we went to the Gypsy Cafe "the only place to be" in Churchill. They had just gotten a shipment of fruit and vegies in so we were able to eat salad and fish and chips.

Today we learned that Via rail will be going on strike. So we are making alternate travel arrangements... that means we will either fly back to Winnipeg or get stranded here until the trains resume their passenger train schedule. Good Morning Belugas!
